Die Pittsburg State University (PSU)
in Kansas bietet ein unübertroffenes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis und beweist, dass eine gute akademische Ausbildung nicht unbedingt teuer sein muss. Kleine Seminargrößen, ein praxisorientiertes Studium und eine dementsprechend hohe Zahl an Studierenden, die nach Abschluss ihres Studiums nicht lange nach einem gut bezahlten Job oder einem Masterstudienplatz suchen müssen. 80 Prozent der Absolventen an der Pittsburg State University sind sechs Monate nach Studienende in einem Arbeitsverhältnis oder konnten sich für einen weiterführenden Studiengang einschreiben.
Über 100 Bachelor- und Masterprogramme
gibt es an der Pittsburg State University – von den Klassikern wie Wirtschaftswissenschaften oder Kommunikationswissenschaft bis hin zu Creative Writing oder ausgewählten Designstudiengängen (Keramik, Schmuck, Innenraumgestaltung) bietet die staatliche Universität eine Vielzahl an unterschiedlichsten Studiengängen an. Insgesamt vier Fakultäten beherbergt die traditionsreiche Universität – Studierende können Programme aus den Bereichen Geisteswissenschaften, Sozial- und Gesellschaftswissenschaften, Kommunikationswissenschaft, Erziehungswissenschaft, Kunstwissenschaft und Angewandte Künste, Mathematik und Naturwissenschaften, Gesundheitswissenschaften, Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Ingenieurwissenschaften wählen.
Die beliebtesten Studienfächer
an der Pittsburg State University sind die Wirtschaftswissenschaften, auch für Erziehungswissenschaften und Ingenieurwissenschaften schreiben sich hier besonders viele Erstsemester ein. Für Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen: Das Kansas Technology Centre befindet sich auf dem Campus und bietet einen direkten Link zur Praxis und damit auch zur Industrie. Für Individualisten: Im Bachelor of General Studies bastelt man sich seinen Lehrplan selbst. Das bedeutet viel Freiheit in der Kurswahl – man kann fakultätsübergreifend aus dem Studienangebot wählen – und die Chance, sich während des Studiums ein sehr individuelles Profil zuzulegen. Allerdings ist hier auch viel Selbstverantwortung und Eigeninitiative gefragt.
Für vielseitig Begabte:
Viele Studiengänge an der Pittsburg State University sind fächerübergreifend angelegt. Das bringt Vorteile, denn auf dem Arbeitsmarkt ist interdisziplinäres Denken und Wissen über den eigenen akademischen Tellerrand hinaus gefragt. Der Studiengang Fashion Merchandising etwa kombiniert Inhalte aus dem Bereich Design mit wirtschaftswissenschaftlichem Know-How. Im Bachelorstudiengang Construction Management werden Ingenieure mit Managerqualitäten ausgebildet.
Moderne Seminarräume,
zahlreiche Computerarbeitsräume, eine gut ausgestattete Bibliothek – die Pittsburg State University bietet beste Studienbedingungen. Das Campusleben an der Pittsburg State University bietet aber auch gute Gründe, Bücher und Laptop öfter mal beiseite zu schieben. 150 studentische Clubs treffen sich zu Volleyball, Soccer oder Basketball, engagieren sich bei gemeinnütziger Arbeit in der (Campus-)Gemeinde oder machen Theater, Kunst oder Musik. Immer präsent: Der Gorilla, das Universität-Maskottchen und unverzichtbar, wenn die Footballer oder Basketballer des Universität-Sportteams am Wochenende gegen andere College Mannschaften gewinnen müssen. Ein Universitäts-eigenes Sport- und Wellness Center bietet den weniger ambitionierten Studierenden Entspannung.
Pittsburg und das umliegende Crawford County
zählen insgesamt fast 40.000 Einwohner. Ursprünglich eine von Industrie und Bergbau geprägte Stadt, bietet Pittsburg heute mit seinen zahlreichen Parks viel Grün und Platz für Outdooraktivitäten. Festivals, Museen und Konzerte sorgen für das kulturelle Angebot – so findet jedes Jahr im September das Little Balkans Festival statt, dass an die vielen süd- und osteuropäischen Bergarbeiter erinnert, die hier früher in den Kohlegruben gearbeitet haben.
Kansas City
liegt nur etwa 1.5 Stunden entfernt - nicht zu weit, um das reiche und bunte Nacht- und Kulturleben der Sadt in vollen Zügen genießen zu können. Für Abwechslung ist daher gesorgt.
