Das British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)
bietet die Möglichkeit für ein Auslandsstudium in Vancouver. Der Hauptcampus des BCIT befindet sich mitten in Burnaby, 20 Minuten von der Innenstadt Vancouvers und nur wenige Gehminuten von großen Parks wie Deer Lake entfernt. Die berühmten Skipisten (z. B. Whistler) erreicht man nach wenigen Stunden Autofahrt. Weitere Campi des BCIT gibt es im Stadtzentrum, am Flughafen sowie im Hafenviertel in North-Vancouver.
BCIT Works
- lautet das Motto der Hochschule. 96 Prozent der BCIT Absolvent/innen finden unmittelbar nach dem Studium einen Job (Durchschnitt in British Columbia: 80 Prozent) und verdienen durchschnittlich 64.480 CAD nach zwei Jahren im Beruf (Durchschnitt in British Columbia: 48.000 CAD). Das Studium am BCIT ist stark praxisorientiert, um einen leichteren Berufseinstieg für die Studierenden zu ermöglichen. Die Studierenden profitieren von der hervorragenden Ausstattung der Hochschule: Zum Beispiel gibt es eine moderne Radiostation (FM 107.9) und ein interaktives Feuersimulationstheater direkt am Campus. Die Studierenden können ihr theoretisches Wissen auch im Telus Call Centre of Excellence (Zentrum für die Telekommunikationsindustrie) und im Marine Engine Room Simulator (Simulation für Unterwassermaschinen) in der Praxis testen.
Eine persönliche Betreuung
ist selbstverständlich an der BCIT. Die Vorlesungen werden in kleinen Klassen abgehalten. Das sorgt für eine persönliche Atmosphäre. In einer Vorlesung sitzen durchschnittlich acht Studierende mit einer Lehrperson. Eine Orientation für internationale Studierende wird vor dem Semester angeboten.
Während eines Auslandssemesters
belegen die Studierenden etwa vier Kurse. Dies entspricht einem vollen Semester mit 15 BCIT Credits. Besonders beliebt sind die Programme in den Bereichen Business, Computer Science und Engineering. Die Studierenden haben die Möglichkeit, eine Kursliste mit der Bewerbung einzureichen. Diese erleichtert die spätere Anerkennung der im Ausland erbrachten Leistungen an der Heimatuniversität.
Unterkunft
1. On-Campus Housing:
internationale Studierende, die in einem full-time Programm eingeschrieben sind, das 4 Monate oder länger dauert, können sich für die Maquinna Student Residence bewerben. Hier wohnen Studierende mit 11 Mitbewohnern in einem Haus mit Küche und Bad, jeder Bewohner hat ein Einzelzimmer.

Bewerbung für On-Campus Housing ist online zu stellen nachdem man an der Universität angenommen wurde, denn der Log-In erfolgt mit der Student Number.
2. Off-Campus Housing:
BCIT Off-Campus Housing - die Off-Campus Housing Wesbite des BCIT mit zahlreichen Angeboten. Man kann in verschiedenen Stadtteilen suchen, es wird in verschiedene Kategorien wie Apartment, Room in Private Home, Furnished, Condo, Townhouse, Roommate, etc. aufgeteilt.

3. Homestay:
Liane's Vancouver Homestay - hier wohnen Studierende bei kanadischen Familien. Sie bekommen ein möbliertes Einzelzimmer und 3 Mahlzeiten am Tag. Internet und Beförderung sind nicht im Preis inbegriffen.
