Die  James Cook University (JCU) ist eine der besten Universitäten in Queensland und die führende in den Tropen. Laut dem Shanghai Jiao Tong University Rankig von 2010 gehört die JCU zu den besten vier Prozent der Univeritäten weltweit. Individualität wird hier groß geschrieben: Kleine Klassen, Dozenten, die sich Zeit nehmen, hervorragende Einrichtungen und eine angenehme Lernumgebung sorgen dafür, dass jedem einzelnen Studenten ein hohes Maß an Aufmerksamkeit zuteil wird. Die hoch qualifizierten Lehrkräfte  - überdurchschnittlich viele Dozenten haben einen PhD und gelten als Experten in ihrem Fach - machen die JCU zu einer der führenden Forschungsuniversitäten Australiens. Aufgrund einer engen Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen, regionalen und internationalen Wirtschaftsunternehmen sind die Studienprogramme der JCU sehr praxisnah und werden stets an die aktuellen wirtschaftlichen Entwicklungen angepasst.

Ein weiteres Plus für die Studenten der JCU ist die einzigartige Lage. Der tropische Norden Queenslands lockt jährlich über zwei Millionen Besucher an. Sehenswürdigkeiten sind das Great Barrier Reef und der feucht-tropische Regenwald - Beide gehören zum Weltkulturerbe. Touristen und Einheimische profitieren von der Vielzahl der Freizeitaktivitäten, welche die Region zu bieten hat: Tauchen am Riff, ein Abstecher in ein Regenwaldgebiet in einem der vielen Nationalparks, ein Spaziergang im Buschland, Camping, Angeln oder der Besuch in der Outback-Region. Dazu kommt, dass die Lebenshaltungskosten vergleichsweise günstig und die Queensländer besonders gastfreundlich sind.
