Studium
Die 1992 gegründete Swinburne University of Technology
bietet eine breitgefächerte universitäre Ausbildung: Von Programmen zur Berufsausbildung bis hin zu Bachelor- und Aufbaustudiengängen sowie PhD-Programmen. Internationale Studierende können auch ein bis zwei Gastsemester an der Swinburne absolvieren. Starke Akzente setzt die Universität in den Bereichen Forschung, Unternehmensgründung und Innovation. Enge Verbindungen mit regionalen und internationalen Wirtschaftsunternehmen und Organisationen bieten beste Voraussetzungen - durch Praktika oder Internships - noch während des Studiums die nötige Praxiserfahrung für den internationalen Arbeitsmarkt zu sammeln.
Kurse werden in vielen Disziplinen angeboten:
Kunst, Psychologie und Sozialwissenschaften, Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Design, Ingenieurwissenschaften, Gesundheitswesen, Tourismus, Informatik, Multimedia, Naturwissenschaften und Umweltwissenschaft. Dabei engagiert sich die Universität auch besonders für Nischenfächer und Randforschungsgebiete, wie etwa Astrophysik oder Optics and Applied Laser Technology. Verschiedene Englisch Sprachkurse kann man ebenso belegen.
In Kombination mit einem Auslandssemester
können sich internationale Studierende auch für ein Praktikum bewerben, nachdem sie bereits ein Semester an der Universität studiert haben. Die Mitarbeiter der Universität suchen je nach persönlichem Interesse des Bewerbers einen geeigneten Praktikumsplatz. Das Angebot gilt für alle an der Swinburne angebotenen Studienrichtungen. Bewerber können je nach Wunsch ein kurzzeitiges oder ein sechsmonatiges Praktikum absolvieren.
Jede der fünf Campusanlagen
in und um Melbourne herum verfügt über ausgezeichnete Einrichtungen mit WLAN, bestens ausgestattete Labore, umfangreich bestückte Bibliotheken, großzügig gestaltete Gesundheitszentren und Cafeterien. Krankenversicherung
Alle Studierenden müssen während des gesamten Studienaufenthalts krankenversichert sein. Das Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) deckt hier die Krankenversicherung für internationale Studierende ab und ist eine Voraussetzung für das Studentenvisum. Studierende der Swinburne werden mit dem OSHC Worldcare der Allianz versichert. Sollten Studierende sich bei einem anderen OSHC Anbieter versichern wollen, so müssen sie einen Beweis über die Versicherung bei der Universität vorlegen um die nötigen Unterlagen für den Visaantrag zu erhalten. Eine Auslandskrankenversicherung kann in keinem Fall vom OSHC befreien. OSHC kostet pro Monat 43 AUD, pro Semester ca. 300 AUD.
